Volunteer Center History

In the Beginning…

The Volunteer Center of Door County was generated by the Leadership Door County Class of 1992-93. Seeing a need for a clearinghouse of volunteer opportunities, this class established the Committee of Volunteerism. Their efforts led to the establishment of the Volunteer Center of Door County, which became a separate entity in July of 2002.

The Volunteer Center of Door County is the only centralized volunteer recruitment and referral service in Door County, charged with finding creative solutions to community problems. The nation’s 500 Volunteer Centers serve a total population of 145 million people in thousands of local communities. Volunteer Centers work with more than 60,000 community organizations and are as varied in scope as the communities they serve.
