17th Annual Golden Heart Recipients Announced

April 11, 2019

The Volunteer Center of Door County celebrated the 17th Annual Golden Heart Volunteer Celebration “Volunteers- Our Brightest Stars” on Thursday, April 11, 2019 Guests celebrated at the Stone Harbor Ballroom honoring the incredible work of Door County volunteers and the non-profit organizations they serve.

Corey Reyment, life-long resident of Northeast Wisconsin provided the keynote address titled "Life Is Short". Corey has truly come to realize what a big impact each person can havein the short time we are given on the planet.  Corey spoke on the ripple effect just changing the life of one peron can have and challenged the attendees to go out and make as many positive impacts as they can.  Pam Seiler and Dan Tjernagel served as the Master of Ceremonies. Each nominee received a complimentary dinner and a gift from Woodrow Engineering.

Award recipients received $500 to donate to a Door County charity of their choice in addition to a custom designed art piece by Chad Luberger of Plum Bottom Gallery. Gretchen Mueller, Margaret Hartman and Bria Caldecott each received a $500 academic scholarship. The 2019 award recipients are:

Adult: Traci Bournoville, Corpus Christi Fellowship Committee

Environmental Stewardship: Annie Egan, Celebrate Water Door County

Group: Door County Habitat for Humanity Home Preservation Team

Youth Scholarship: Gretchen Mueller, Southern Door High; Margaret Hartman, Sevastopol High; and Bria Caldecott, Gibraltar High School

Karl May Lifetime of Service Award:  Julie LaLuzerne, Wisconsin Humane Society/Door County Campus Therapy Dog Program

Brighten someone's day and make an impact! - Become a Hospice Volunteer!

Spend time with a patient. Volunteers become a trusted friend, they offer a listening ear, a hand to hold, or an open heart. Companions may give the patient emotional support, offer relief to a caregiver for a brief period of time, or provide helpful services such as writing letters, reading, and making phone calls.
